Historical Fiction

Historical fiction mixes reality with the imaginary. Certain elements of specific time periods are historically accurate or correct, but the characters and their dialogue is made-up.

  2. I would like to reccomend adding Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool. It is about a young girl named Abilene looking to find out more about her father. He sends her to the town in which he grew up, Manifest, Kansas, to live with Shady, a temorary pastor who bootlegged during the Prohibition because he got a railroad job in California. This was an interesting book because when Abilene meets Miss Saidie, and old Hungarian diviner, he is told many stories about life during the Prohibition. The stories follow one young man named Jinx, and Abilene is convinced that he is her father. Jinx's friend goes off to the war and sends Jinx many letters. All of these adjacent stories made it a challenging read, as well, but overall I really enjoyed the book.
